When it comes to the guitar there are some bad habits starting to show up in popular music.  The use of the tuner is no longer considered as necessary as it once was.  While there is a place for freedom of expression in music, there is also a place of order.  Tuning provides the player the ability to play with others, and allow the music being played to be heard the best that it can be.  Far too many garage bands are not learning the importance of Tuning A Guitar when playing their instruments. Tuners range from a wide variety of prices.  However, since Tuning A Guitar is one of the most important things that needs to be done to a guitar, it is always suggested to not go cheap on this point.  Turners start around $10 and go all the way up to hundreds of dollars for a single tuner.  One of the most popular tuner is a pedal tuner made by Boss, called the TU-2.  This chromatic tuner can be used on any acoustic instrument, as well as a bass guitar. Tuning A Guitar is not as hard as it may seem.  Especially if you happen to have one of these electric tuners.  You simple turn on the tuner, pluck a string as it is being held up to the mic end of the tuner, and wait for the note to be displayed on the tuner screen.  Once the note is displayed, simply adjust the string up or down to meet the note right on the center line to be in tune.  Some tuners allow you to plug the guitar directly into the tuner to get the most accurate reading, while others do not allow this capability. Some people think that Tuning A Guitar is tricky, but once you get the hang of it this task becomes not only something that is simple, but necessary to proper playing of the instrument.  There could come a time when a tuner is no where to be found.  In this case you can also use a single guide note to get you started.  Then by using the different harmonics on the fretboard, you will be able to get the guitar in perfect tune with itself.  However, this method is for more advanced players.
